    Wash and soak the toor dal 30 min, then pressure cook till soft. No time to soak? Just wash and pressure cook — soaking only speeds it up.

    Heat ghee in a pan. Add jeera, ginger garlic paste, green chilli, onions, turmeric, chilli powder and coriander powder; saute till the onions look translucent.

    Add the chopped tomatoes and saute till cooked. Add salt and the cooked dal; mix well.

    Add water to get a dal consistency and keep stirring till everything is combined and the dal boils.

    Finish with lemon juice and cilantro, mix well, and enjoy with rice.
